Sanctuary of Loyola
Birthplace of Saint Ignatius and Jesuit temple
In its idyllic surroundings at the heart of the Urola Valley, the Sanctuary of Loyola is one of Gipuzkoa’s most important historical sites. The birthplace of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, known as the Casa Santa, has been preserved as a relic in the impressive temple that includes a stunning Roman-style basilica. The Casa Santa and the basilica with its striking 60-metre-high dome are a must-see on any trip to the province or indeed the wider Basque Country, as they form part of the region’s top 10 sights.
